[Database Cluster] Maintenance window 13th August 2016
Posted by David Croft on 01 July 2016 12:42 PM |
Please be advised of the following maintenance window scheduled on our MySQL database cluster. Action may be required. Start date: Saturday, 13th August 2016 Start time: 22:00 BST (UTC+0100) End time: 14th August 02:00 BST (UTC+0100) Purpose: We will be migrating our primary database cluster mysql1.db.uk.sargasso.net to new hardware and upgrading it to MySQL version 5.6. IPv6 connections will also be enabled. Services affected: Shared web hosting using our database cluster. Some customer portals including https://support.comtec.com/ Impact: HIGH. While we normally perform low-impact rolling upgrades, in this instance we are taking the opportunity to move to new hardware to provide an environment for continued growth and to upgrade to a new major version. The current cluster will be shut down during this maintenance window, and the final data synchronised. The new cluster will then be tested and made available approximately 30-45 minutes following the shutdown. An IPv6 AAAA record will be added to the new DNS record only (mysql1.db.as42579.net), so connections may be made over IPv6. To minimise potential impact, the old DNS record (mysql1.db.uk.sargasso.net) will be left as IPv4 only. As this contains a major software version upgrade, this e-mail serves as 30 days notice of a change to the technical functionality of the Service that does not diminish the Service under clause 2.5 of the Master Services Agreement. Action Required: 1) Please ensure that you are using the hostname "mysql1.db.uk.sargasso.net" or "mysql1.db.as42579.net" to access the database and not any specific IP address (this has always been our advice). 2) Please ensure that your software is compatible with MySQL 5.6 Comtec NOC is tracking this issue under ticket [#MEH-774-75672]. Report: Our monitoring systems detected partial loss of service to IP Voice Services including access to the provisioning portals and the loss of some SIP registrations. Service was restored at 16:41 and engineering have confirmed service is stable. Our supplier's engineers remotely powered down a faulty switch to take it out of service to enable all traffic to route over the secondary resilient switch in the network. They returned the primary switch to service during an emergency maintenance window last night. The vendor, in conjunction with engineering, has gathered more detailed logs and the investigation is active and ongoing. Engineering have increased levels of active monitoring to ensure the issue does not reoccur before the root cause is understood. Comtec NOC is tracking this issue under ticket [#ULB-279-38308]. This is an incident notification regarding IP Voice Services. Date: Wednesday, 29th June 2016 Start time: 16:13 BST (UTC+0100) End time: 16:41 BST (UTC+0100) Services affected: IP Voice Services. Report: Our monitoring systems detected partial loss of service to IP Voice Services including access to the provisioning portals and the loss of some SIP registrations. Our supplier has confirmed a suspected software bug on a core network switch and have gathered all logs and raised this with the vendor for confirmation. Our supplier's engineers remotely powered down the switch to take it out of service to enable all traffic to route over the secondary resilient switch in the network. Engineering are liaising with the vendor to bring the primary switch back into service at the earliest opportunity without affecting service. In the meantime, core network resiliency has been temporarily reduced and engineering are closely monitoring all services. Service was restored at 16:41 and engineering have confirmed service is stable. Further details will be supplied as they become available.
